Funeral Directors, Preston

You get more than a funeral when you use Martin’s Funeral Directors – you get people who care about you in your grief. Martin Wootton is a good listener – his sympathetic manner with people is matched by a desire to help his clients however they may wish.

“Our approach is to listen and point families in the right direction without making decisions for them,” he says. “We are local people living in the community and we care. It is nice to leave a crematorium or cemetery and feel you have done your best for the deceased person and their family.”

Martin has been in business nine years, doing hundreds of funerals every year in Preston and Longridge.

He has a large function room, with kitchen facilities, where up to 70 people can gather before a funeral – and use afterwards.

A funeral can even be held there if people do not want a church service.

Martin, a funeral director since 1978, decided he wanted to look after grieving people at the age of 16 when his father died, having been so impressed by the funeral director’s care.

He is proud to be independent – as opposed to one of the big chains – and is in the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors.

Also a member of the British Institute of Embalmers, Martin set up on his own in 2007 after seeing local funeral companies bought by national chains. “I felt people deserved a truly independent and bespoke service,”  said Martin, who attends all funerals.

He offers a wide variety of services, from church funerals to secular occasions and even woodland burials. He also assists the Hindu, Sikh and Muslim communities.

Martin helps people plan their own funerals with a detailed list of arrangements they want  and pre-paid Golden Charter funeral plans, which he feels are the most uncomplicated. “We do quite a few of these,” he adds. “It saves the families the worry of doing everything.”

His phone is answered 24 hours a day.
