uPVC windows, conservatories, Preston

You don’t get high-pressure from this family firm – you get expert advice. Simon Worby (centre), their salesman with a difference, used to run his own window-fitting business.

“He’s a big asset,” says joint owner Mark Lee. “We’re getting a lot of good feedback from clients on how knowlegeable he is about  the products and how he doesn’t do pressure sales.”

Simon, the uPVC firm’s first ever salesman, was taken on one year ago after owners Mark (right) and Alan Kelly (left) found they had too many inquiries to cope. “We didn’t have enough time in the day to keep up with all the quotes,” said Mark, who still visits customers himself.

Winter months were always busy for Lee Kelly, he added. “Potential customers have been sitting in their garden and think they’d like an extra room for next summer or they want extra space for the kids and visitors.

“A conservatory can be added for as little as £6,500 including VAT and with new Celsius glass, you can have an all-year-round room, warm in winter and cool in summer, which it never used to be.”

Celsius Glass, devised by a Blackburn firm, blocks heat better than any other product – and Mark is happy to show it with his demonstration kit. “We’ve had excellent feedback on this glass. It does what it says, as far as keeping in heat over winter and keeping out heat and glare in summer,” says Mark, who re-roofs conservatories with Celsius Glass.

Lee Kelly, which has 15 staff, was founded 12 years ago when the pair left an Ashton builders’ merchants on its takeover by a national firm.

Avoiding gimmicky offers and high-pressure sales, they have built a successful business by providing good, honest value-for-money.

They are as happy replacing a single window in a terraced house as they are installing all windows and doors in a prestige property.

Mark notes the uPVC industry is moving away from white as more people opt for black and coloured frames such as grey, cream, Chartwell green and custom-sprayed frames. “These look sleek, new and modern, yet go with traditional houses, too.”

You’ll still get the personal touch from two men well known throughout Preston’s building trade, who will still play a part in every job going through the firm. “We would not want to lose that,” adds  Mark.

Their approach is to sell quality products at affordable prices, and to offer good customer service, both before and after sales.

Quotes can be so low it makes people suspicious but Mark stresses they sell only quality products. Lee Kelly offers a wide range of services, from fitting one window to tackling an entire housing estate.

Products include windows, doors, conservatories, orangeries, bi-folding doors, gutters, fascia boards, porches and sun lounges.

A 10-year insurance-backed guarantee is given on all installations. Ring or visit Lee Kelly’s extensive website.

Lee Kelly have replaced my plastic roof with a glass one and the difference is incredible. The conservatory is so much brighter and we barely notice when it rains as it is so quiet. They are competitive on price and they really do offer excellent customer service.
