Golf Course and Lessons - Preston

Three years on, the Wright brothers have proved the doubters wrong – and made a success of re-opening Ingol’s golf complex. In August 2015 more than 3,000 rounds of golf were played at the club by visitors and members – “we were very busy,” says John. And in January, the club won Lancashire Golf Union membership– a huge vote of confidence for its course improvements, meaning its handicap certificates are accepted worldwide. “That was a big turning point. We are absolutely delighted,” says John (pictured left), who with brother Tim used to run Nevada Bob’s Driving Range in Lytham. High-tech golfing tuition from pro Dean Beaver (pictured right) is another big plus. More than £20,000 has been spent converting a squash court into an indoor teaching studio (pictured) using the Foresight GC2 launch monitor, plus associated simulation software, as used on Sky Sports. “It makes learning much quicker,” says Dean. “It gives ball flight data – club hand speed, direction, trajectory, spin axis –  and that allows me to communicate better. I can get done in one lesson what sometimes takes two or three.” John said when he and Tim took over the lease in November 2012, they faced a massive challenge. They have “worked like crazy to solve the course’s well-known drainage problems – and it now plays 18 holes most of the year. Membership is 300 with hopes to grow to 400 from its latest promotion –  £370 for 12 months. Functions The club is keen to attract non-members to its restaurant, bar and function room, which caters for between 20 and 200 people. The Sunday carvery is popular, with up to 150 diners. Anyone bringing Home Handbook with them can have a three course meal, plus coffee, for £10 – normal cost is £17. Book to be sure of a place. January 30 sees the club host the President’s Big Band Night, and Feb 13, the Houghton Weavers. Apply to the club for details.
