Question:
I have some screening trees at the back of my garden including two holly oaks. One of them has 'rust' spots on the underside of its leaves. Is this anything serious or is it better to have it cut it down and plant another one? -N M, Penwortham
Answer:
Without seeing the rust on the trees I'm not able to give you a complete answer. But I am confident in saying that there is no reason why you should feel the need to remove the tree just yet. Monitor the trees for signs of defoliation (loss of leaves), signs of deadwood and general signs of decline of the tree. This probably isn't a threat to the tree and no rash actions should be carried out.
